Djembe Drumming with Abass Nii Dodoo (Ghana)

Abass has an inclusive energetic style and this workshop will definate reach parts in you, you didnt even know existed! Experience the complexity and dynamism of African music with Abass and the Jamo Jamo Artists who are passionate to share the beat of their histories.

Djembe Dance with Landing Mané (Senegal)

Landing Mané embodies the spirit of Senegalese music and dance. His magnetic personality & an innate talent for teaching & performance inspires joy in all. Joined by Abass, Ernest Kwame Obeng & Mohammed Dordoh you will learn spectacular dance moves in some pretty spectacular company! Bring your full heart to this session for an energetic and unforgettable hour & we promise it wont hurt!

Fula Stories, Song & Riti with Juldeh Camara (Gambia)

A prominent Fula musician and master Riti player! (lute with a single string made from horse-hair.) Juldeh has just won the 'Culture Crossing' BBC 3 World Music Award 2008 with fellow musician Justin Adams. If you dont know him already you are sure to soon! Get ready for a sunshine journey from Nottingham to West Africa sharing his stories & learning fula song .

As part of the evening programme of entertainment we would like the AfrikArjana marketplace to represent all areas of our community. Inform. Feed. & Adorn the people!

All we ask is that you donate an item towards the raffle or if you are able offer a small contribution to the event.

Stall Set up Time : 4pm-5.30pm

Doors Open 6pm

small round tables available ONLYplease bring your own table if you prefer.

BOKA HALAT

A family friendly knees up in true inter cultural style! This infectious Afro-Ceilidh band bring you eclectic dance grooves from Gambia, & the Punjab which flow smoothly between Mandinka song & a Wessex jig. Special guest appearance from Nottingham based musician and brother Yusupha Mboob! Make sure you arrive early to get your place on the dance floor as the Ceilidh starts at 7pm sharp!

WORKSHOP SHARING

An opportunity for workshop participants to bathe in the adoration of friends & family as they perform what they learnt earlier in the day.

Juldeh Camara and friends bring you traditional Fula music laced with Blues & Afro Beat

JAMO JAMO ARTS

Feel the energy rise as the heartbeat of the drum & the spirit of traditional & contemporary West African dance connects you to the rhythm of life.

There will also be a Market Place for those early xmas pressies! Film Projections. Delicious African food & Bar.

AFRIKARJANA EVENT ASSISTANTS

We would like to offer city wide young people the opportunity to take part in this cultural event by becoming Event Assistants. We would like to work in partnership with an agency to provide interesting roles & suitable accreditation to be awarded to the young people on the night of the event

Some of the Roles....

Assisting smooth running of the workshops. Welcoming the audience. Artist hospitality. Managing the cloakroom. Managing the marketplace stalls. Creative documentation of the event. Managing the raffle.
